ThermaChannel is both the name of our company and our patented, energy-efficient steel framing members or steel studs for thermally improved exterior wall framing.

ThermaChannel is a cost-effective solution to steel framing’s glaring problem of thermal bridging.  Using ThermaChannel studs should also greatly reduce if not eliminate “ghost marking” on walls.

Framing with ThermaChannel is just the same as framing with standard studs.  For example, if you are using a 1-5/8″ x 6″ x 10′ steel stud in 18 gauge, you will use the same in ThermaChannel, or a 1-5/8″ x 6″ x 10′ ThermaChannel stud in 18 gauge.  However, ThermaChannel features the patented recessed flanges which create a thermal break, thereby increasing the wall’s r-value.

Professional energy modelling has shown that a building framed with ThermaChannel studs versus standard steel studs would save between 3% and 4.8% of its overall annual energy use!  This is a huge improvement with little cost and zero maintenance over the building’s lifetime.  Also, the modelling was done for 3 US climates:  hot – Phoenix, AZ 3%; cold – Minneapolis, MN 4.8%; and humid – Miami, FL 4%.
